Hospitality Coordinators for Funeral VisitationAnna McMahon When visitation is held at the Church, the Hospitality Coordinators are asked to be present and to serve as liaisons for the deceased's family and the mortuary representatives as well as the presiding priest. They ensure that needed equipment is available for the family and answer any of their or the mortuary's questions. This includes putting on soft music, helping with videos, putting banners out and distributing programs. Before all funerals, whether there is visitation or not, the Coordinators assist the Adult Servers in making sure that everything is ready for the Celebration of Life. After the Funeral Mass, the Coordinators work with the Adult Servers to put things away and make sure the Church is returned to order. There needs to be a least one coordinator in attendance for each funeral Mass held at Holy Spirit. UshersJim & Carol Shaver Ushers of Holy Spirit are ministers of hospitality, making others feel welcomed as they enter the church. Ushers assist in seating people for Mass, take up the collections, guide the flow of people at Communion, and pass out bulletins at the end of Mass. Ushers also assist members of the congregation with special needs, help find available seats on days when the pews are especially full and know what to do in case of an emergency. Purpose: To be of service to others and help develop a liturgical space that is like a home, a place that is characterized by warmth, friendship, and hospitality. A place where we can interact with God and our neighbors in a faith filled community. Who Belongs: Open to all parishioners who are willing to serve others graciously, and show a respect and reverence for God's house. There is a need for additional ushers and an additional ministry chairperson to help increase communications among ushers. How Often Do They Meet: There are three groups of ushers that are assigned four months through the year to serve at individual Masses. Masses are scheduled through Ministry Scheduler Pro (MSP). The Greeting Ministry began with the arrival of Father Paul in 2009. He had this ministry at his former Parish and thought it was a good way for parishioners to meet one another. Father Paul even started the use of name tags which people are still wearing today. It was his way of remembering faces and names. Greeters greet on a rotation every three months for the entire month. We arrive 15-20 minutes before Mass begins. Masses are scheduled through Ministry Scheduler Pro (MSP). You can log in here: MSP. Greeters are volunteers that are stationed at the entrances to the church each weekend to extend a friendly and warm welcome to parishioners and guests as they enter church for Mass. They assist those in wheel chairs or walkers. Sometimes, they give others directions to the restroom or even the chapel. Their purpose is so that all members and guests feel welcomed as they enter into the House of God. It’s a very rewarding ministry. I myself have met so many wonderful parishioners I would never have known. Every Mass is in need of greeters. |
