Extraordinary Ministers started at Holy Spirit in 1972 or 1973. There were seven lay ministers for each of our five Masses. People were chosen by the Pastor or Associate Pastor. They had to be a practicing Catholic, in good standing, and had received Baptism, Confession, Communion, and Confirmation. They received training from the Pastor or his designee.

We assist the presider “during Mass, because of the size of the congregation or a particular difficulty in which a celebrant finds himself.” Pope Paul VI explaining Facilitation Sacramental Eucharistic Communion in Particular Circumstances (1973).

Eucharist Ministers are lay people serving the Catholic Church by distributing Holy Communion during Mass. We are involved in many Masses including First Communion, Confirmation, Weddings, Funerals, Holy Week Liturgies, etc. This is one of the most rewarding and at the same time humbling ministries available to the lay person.

Los Ministros Extraordinarios comenzaron en el Espíritu Santo en 1972 o 1973. Había siete ministros laicos para cada una de nuestras cinco misas. Las personas eran elegidas por el Párroco o el Párroco Asociado. Tenían que ser católicos practicantes, estar en regla y haber recibido el Bautismo, la Confesión, la Comunión y la Confirmación. Recibían formación del párroco o de la persona designada.

Los Ministros de la Eucaristía son laicos que sirven a la Iglesia Católica distribuyendo la Sagrada Comunión durante la Misa. Estamos involucrados en muchas Misas incluyendo Primera Comunión, Confirmación, Bodas, Funerales, Liturgias de Semana Santa, etc. Este es uno de los ministerios más gratificantes y al mismo tiempo humillantes disponibles para los laicos.
