“Years ago, as a little girl, I won the prize winning Quilt at a festival at my little country Catholic Church near Loogootee, IN.  I was always very proud of it.  Years later after I had learned to quilt, I had a great desire to start a quilting group at Holy Spirit Church.  Then, we could raffle off a quilt at our annual festival each year.  I remember how happy I was to win a quilt and wanted others to have that experience.  A parishioner, Virginia Godfrey, had won the first quilt that was made in the Block’s quilt contest.  I asked her if she would help me get it started.  She agreed and was a big help.  She stayed with me for a year.  By then, we had a nice group and have had a quilt for our festival every year since.  I’m not sure what year we got started, but I think it was 1979.  In 2003 or 2004, the leadership was turned over to the very capable hands of Ann Powers.” – Marcella Smith

Our prime objective is to make a quilt to be raffled at the festival.  We’re a very congenial group.  We have fun while creating beautiful heirlooms.  We are proud of the fact we contribute to the parish on a zero budget.

We meet each Monday from 1-3 p.m. downstairs in the Parish Center.  We welcome quilters or anyone who wants to learn to quilt or piece.

"Hace años, cuando era pequeña, gané el premio en un festival de mi pequeña iglesia católica cerca de Loogootee, IN. Siempre me sentí muy orgullosa de ella. Años más tarde, después de haber aprendido a acolchar, tuve un gran deseo de iniciar un grupo de acolchado en la Iglesia del Espíritu Santo. Entonces, podríamos rifar una colcha en nuestro festival anual cada año. Recuerdo lo feliz que me hacía ganar una colcha y quería que otros tuvieran esa experiencia. Una feligresa, Virginia Godfrey, había ganado la primera colcha que se hizo en el concurso de colchas del Bloque. Le pregunté si me ayudaría a empezar. Aceptó y fue de gran ayuda. Se quedó conmigo un año. Para entonces, ya teníamos un buen grupo y, desde entonces, todos los años hemos hecho una colcha para nuestro festival. No estoy segura de en qué año empezamos, pero creo que fue en 1979. En 2003 o 2004, la dirección pasó a las muy capaces manos de Ann Powers". - Marcella Smith

Nuestro principal objetivo es confeccionar una colcha para sortearla en el festival. Somos un grupo muy agradable. Nos divertimos mientras creamos hermosas reliquias. Estamos orgullosos de contribuir a la parroquia con un presupuesto cero.

Nos reunimos cada lunes de 1-3 p.m. abajo en el Centro Parroquial. Damos la bienvenida a quilters o cualquier persona que quiera aprender a acolchar o pieza.
