Middle SchoolWe will be finishing up with President’s testing over the next few classes. As a reminder, President’s testing is a series of Physical Education tests that gauge muscular strength, muscular endurance, speed and quickness, and flexibility among others. The tests include pull-ups, curl-ups, flex arm hang, shuttle run, pushups, sit and reach, mile run, and I have added an additional test and that is the pole climb on the playground. Students must show progress from their first quarter results and we will be tracking results in journals. We are not yet done with the mile in every class, so we will be continuing until finished—please have students bring inhalers if they have them or need them.

Grade 2 (Mrs. Norman’s class)We will continue a Wiffle Ball unit. We will start playing games this week and we will use “pitcher’s hand”—if the fielding team gets the ball back to the pitcher before the hitter runs from home to first base, the hitter is out.
First Grade and KindergartenWe will continue our soccer unit. We will play soccer games this week. The classes will be broken up into small teams, so there is more of an opportunity for sharing the ball with one another as we play.
PreschoolThis past Friday was our last day of class for the year. The preschool will have their graduation next Friday.
As always, it is expected that each student is to come to class each day with their gym uniform, have a good attitude, ready to learn, and ready to work.
We had a great presentation this morning from Fr. Chris, Mrs. Daves, Mrs. Brokaw, and Mrs. White about their last visit with our twinning parish in Texiquat, Honduras. We saw pictures of the students who received our donated shoes, sun glasses, and eye glasses.
Mrs. Daves also brought back some letters from our 4th and 5th Grade pen pals. We will be writing back this week.

Students will have 9 weeks to complete the work. So a song a week will make sure they have an A. Check in with you child and see how many songs they have completed. 5 Mc: Barred instruments presentations! Middle School General Music Classes: All students in general music will be writing a reflection during the next two class, which will be due at the end of the 2nd class. A reflection, over the symphony experience. This paper will be 5 paragraphs long with proper writing structure and grammar. Performers for AFD will be doing Glee Presentations that will be due on Tuesday of next week. Performances to follow.
We have nearly completed our Benchmark testing in 4th and 5th Grades. A few students will be finishing up this week. Results will be sent home next week. We have had a lot of impressive gains in our third round of testing.
This year is winding down! We will be doing a variety of final assessments to measure the year's growth. We started Benchmarks today, we will be doing WRAP assessment, and the 2nd graders will participate in IREAD-2. It is important that the students do their personal best on these assessments, as the results will be used to inform the administration and their teachers for next year It is always great to see how much the students have grown over the year, and I am sure we will have a lot of success to celebrate!
Today's homework is to copy their new spelling words so they have a list at hoe. they should also be reading for their weekly reading log. Lately I have had children falling asleep in the room. I know the days are longer and baseball, soccer, softball and rugby are in full swing, but please remember we still have 3 weeks of school left.
I will be assessing the students throughout the week. We will continue to read stories and discuss skills we are to learn in first grade. We are continuing with our geometry unit in math and reviewing topics already discussed. I am sending home with the children two papers in regards to Teacher's Appreciation Week. Please read over them carefully.

We have just two weeks of school left. We will be going to the zoo on Monday, May 21st. We are meeting at the front gate of the zoo at 9 AM. You will have some time to walk around with your child and find the zoo animals on their sheet (I am bringing these to the zoo) and then we will be going to the first dolphin show. We will have lunch just outside the zoo on the picnic tables at 11 and then the children will be dismissed to spend the rest of the day with you. I will be providing lunch for all the children. There will be a small graduation program on Friday, May 25th. It will begin at 10 in the Rose Garden. It will run just a half hour. Half day children will be dismissed from the Rose Garden at 10:30 and full day children will go to lunch. This is a regular full day but feel free to take your children after the program if you wish. A sign up sheet will be available on Wednesday for conferences. Conferences will be on Wednesday, May 30th. Enjoy Mother's Day God Bless Mrs. Flynn.

Grade 2 (Mrs. Norman’s class)We will continue a Wiffle Ball unit. We have been working in stations on throwing and catching, swinging the bat level, and fielding. We have been working on force outs vs. non-force outs and started hitting the ball last week. We will continue hitting this week, work on fielding, and starting the process of having the kids pitch (underhand).
First Grade and KindergartenWe will continue our soccer unit. We will continue station work this week on kicking a long distance using the toe (rather than the inside of our foot for short distance) of our foot and stopping the ball by putting our foot on top of it and working on goalie skills—catching and blocking the ball with our hands. We have started to dribble the soccer ball in between cones as well and will add kicking to a partner after we dribble to simulate playing an actual soccer game, which we will start soon.
PreschoolWe will work on our stretches and throw beanbags underhand with a partner.
