What We Offer

Music is very much a part of our lives with the radio, in movies, television, sports, national anthems, memories, children songs and even at gas stations. There are songs about happiness, sorrow, hope, even humor. We have music for dance and music for stillness, the list can go on and on.

Music Ministry is an important part of the Mass: the song text can guide us to connect to the message of the scriptures, that day’s liturgical celebration, the Eucharist and more. The whole congregation is united in song.

Church music is uniting, introspective and prayerful. The Second Vatican Council states that the goal of sacred music is for “...the glory of God and the sanctification of the faithful.”

Many people say that they are not “musically inclined enough” to join the choir, yet if you enjoy singing in a group and can attend rehearsals, you can join the choir! The 5:30 p.m. Holy Spirit Ensemble gathers Saturday at 4:30 p.m. The 10:30 a.m. Choir will resume on September 11. Both groups practice on Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. in the church. The 12:00 Noon Unity Mass welcomes instruments and percussion - our congas need to be used more often!

Instruments are welcome at all Masses. Do you play an instrument yet feel hesitant about playing at Mass? Feel free to schedule a time to meet with me one-on-one and I can give you the music well in advance.

The weekend blog for cantors and choirs is available here.

“To sing once is to pray twice.” - St. Augustine

Volunteer Quotes

  • “Since our music at Mass is drawn from scripture, singing at Mass is one special way we are able to share God’s word with others. It also gives those of us in the choir a special bond with each other. If God has given us the gift of music, I believe we need to share it and give it back to Him. Come join us!” - Mary Lynn
  • “We joined this ministry to sing, play our instruments and maybe help folks enjoy the liturgy more...turns out we’re the ones who benefit: being part of great music, friendships and belonging to something bigger than us.”
